Dorian Close is a shared home that is staffed to suit the needs of the tenants to enable them to lead independent lives. There are 3 bedrooms and everyone shares use of the lounge, kitchen, dining room and laundry facilities. The house has a bathroom on the first floor and a toilet on the ground floor. The garden is easily accessed and low maintenance. Dorian Close is located very near to Southmead Hospital and Horfield Sports Centre in a quiet road where a sense of community prevails. It also has very good transport links to the city centre and to Cribbs Causeway.
Support is assessed to individual needs and staff support the service users to learn how to access the community safely and independently as well as teaching daily living skills such as cooking, shopping and money management so they can continue to pay their bills.
Staff also support individuals to look for paid work or voluntary work, make friends and enhance their social networks. Individuals are supported to maintain their tenancy by learning how to report maintenance issues, pay bills and look after their home by cleaning and doing laundry.
The service is not staffed 24 hours but tenants have access to an on-call system where they can get telephone support in an emergency. Individuals currently receive between 8 and 25 hours of support per week.
